He got nearer to it, near enough to touch it. IT WAS COLD
AND MADE OF METAL! This was no tree ... it was ... a pole. Not just
a pole, but ... a POLE! But which one? The North Pole or the South Pole?
Chickie sat down to think. And then it came to him: if the Pole was cold, it must be the North Pole! He had found the North Pole! Chickie jumped up and down with joy; he had actually made a great discovery after all. He stopped to think. It wasn't enough to turn round and go home and tell the others what he had found: if he was to be a legendary explorer, he must climb to the top of the pole as well. He gathered his strength and started to climb. The North Pole was taller than he had imagined, so tall that it took
him ages and ages to get to the top. When he did get to the top, he
found, to his surprise, lots of ropes going round in circles. He wondered
why they were there and guessed that they must have belonged to another
great explorer. Home page         Previous page Next page |
